The Drum Still Beats
Some festivals last a weekend. Some make headlines with flashy lineups. And then there's Rototom Sunsplash — a festival that hasn't just survived time, but created its own rhythm. A spiritual calendar where thousands of people from around the world come together every year to reconnect, celebrate, and heal. Thirty years have passed, and yet the drum still beats, the bass still vibrates, the fire still burns. Because Rototom isn’t just a festival — it’s a home, a classroom, a leap of faith.
From Italy to the Mediterranean
Rototom was born in 1994 in a small corner of Italy, brought to life by a group of dreamers who wanted something different. Not just a space for reggae, but for culture, thought, and real human connection. What started small quickly became too real to remain quiet. In 2010, the festival found a new home in Benicàssim, Spain, and every August since, a magical window opens on the Mediterranean coast — a place where the world feels a little more human, even if just for a few days.
More Than Music — It’s Feeling
At Rototom, music isn’t just a show — it’s ritual, healing, message. The stages have welcomed legends like Burning Spear, Alpha Blondy, Jimmy Cliff, Stephen Marley, Protoje, Damian Marley and more. But what makes it truly special is how the artists and the crowd meet on the same emotional frequency. There are no stars here — just guides. Just family.
Every concert is a ceremony, every riddim a bridge, every "One Love" echo floats long after the music ends.
A Space to Think, Learn, and Elevate
It’s not all about the stage. Since day one, Rototom has created space for thinking and awakening. The Social Forum, Reggae University, and other corners of the festival host conversations about real life — racism, migration, spirituality, justice, community. The message of reggae lives everywhere in this gathering, not just in the lyrics.
If You Know, You Know
If you’ve been to Rototom, you know — you don’t leave the same. It’s not just about the music. It’s the hug from a stranger. It’s the little girl dancing to dub with her grandfather. It’s the campsite where Italians, Chileans, and Senegalese gather like old friends. It’s crying during a roots tune that hits your soul unexpectedly. It’s the certainty that another world is possible, and for a few precious days — you’re living it.
Thirty Years Isn’t Just a Number
Thirty years is more than an anniversary. It’s a journey. A victory. A promise kept. In a world where everything feels disposable, where spirit becomes brand and culture becomes content, Rototom remains rooted. Still believing in music as transformation. Still building bridges. Still walking with the people to the rhythm of the bassline. And the best part? They’re still inviting us to walk alongside them.
Thank You, Rototom
Thank you for never selling out. For turning reggae into a universal language. For reminding us that revolution can be danced. For showing us that love is not a slogan — it’s a daily act. Thirty years isn’t the end — it’s another spin on the vinyl. A new generation steps into the circle. A new song is waiting to be sung. Got your tickets yet? See you in Benicàssim.
